New Platform Supports Computer Science Teachers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Strengthens Skills of Future Generations
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ICT education ecosystem has received a significant boost. Through a partnership between Bit Alliance, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the MarketMakers project, additional teaching materials are now available to all computer science teachers—helping them enhance classroom delivery and improve digital knowledge and skills among new generations.
After registering on edu.itkarijera.ba, computer science teachers can access materials across five subject areas—GUI, Android App Development, Web Application Development, C++ Programming, and Mathematical Foundations—with the goal of strengthening secondary education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The platform offers lesson plans and preparation notes, ready-to-use classroom presentations, and practice and homework assignments.
“As an association bringing together the most prominent IT companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since our founding in 2014 we have been committed to improving the quality of education—especially in digital knowledge and skills. With this platform and the highly useful, free materials we provide, we aim to contribute to the education and preparation of teaching staff,” said Damir Maglajlić, Executive Director of Bit Alliance.
Many schools across the country face financial constraints and lack adequate computer labs, while textbooks are often not aligned with modern developments in informatics. These challenges make it more difficult for teachers to follow rapidly changing trends. Additionally, the shift to online teaching introduced new demands and further highlighted the need for stronger investment in this area.
The new platform—designed to make teaching easier for computer science educators—supports more modern and higher-quality instruction at a time when education in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to struggle with outdated and frequently inadequate curricula. The need for modernization is also reflected in weak student performance in international assessments such as TIMSS and PISA.
“As an association of experts that works closely with educational institutions, we are aware of the challenges the education system is facing. This platform is the latest in a series of examples of our support for young people—helping them, through quality education, to develop the skills needed for future jobs and secure a better future for themselves, their families, and the wider community,” said Kristina Erak, Project Manager, emphasizing that the IT industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to expand and offers substantial development potential.
Beyond creating new jobs with strong working conditions, the IT industry generates significant revenues and opens opportunities to accelerate the country’s overall development—an opportunity that should not be missed.
“We are pleased to have supported such an important initiative. At IOM, we hope the results will encourage other actors to take concrete actions that will enable better education for young ICT professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Darko Paranos, Project Manager at the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Investing in the IT industry must be a priority for any society seeking to create a business-friendly environment—and the foundation for that growth begins with education.
We invite all interested computer science teachers to register at edu.itkarijera.ba, review and download the available materials, and share feedback via contact@bit-alliance.ba.
